Christmas Eve in London

It is a cold Christmas Eve in London. Snow is falling, and the streets are full of people. Families are buying food and gifts. Children are laughing and singing Christmas songs. Most people are happy, but Ebenezer Scrooge is not. He is a rich businessman who thinks money is more important than Christmas. He does not like spending money or helping others. He often says that Christmas is a waste of time.

Scrooge works in a small office. His worker, Bob Cratchit, sits near a very small fire because the office is cold. Bob does not make much money, but he works hard. He loves his family and cares for his young son, Tiny Tim. Tiny Tim is often sick, but he is kind and cheerful. Bob hopes to spend a warm Christmas Day with his family.

That afternoon, Scrooge's nephew, Fred, comes to the office. Fred smiles and says, “Merry Christmas, Uncle!” He invites Scrooge to Christmas dinner with his family. Scrooge says no. Fred is sad, but he does not get angry. He believes Christmas is a time to share love and kindness. Before leaving, Fred wishes Scrooge a happy Christmas again.

Later, Scrooge goes home alone. His house is dark and quiet. Suddenly, he hears a strange sound. It is the ghost of Jacob Marley, his old business partner. Marley wears heavy chains. He tells Scrooge that he cared only about money when he was alive. Now he wants Scrooge to learn from his mistakes. “You still have time to change,” Marley warns him.

Marley says that three Christmas spirits will visit Scrooge. The Ghost of Christmas Past will show him old memories. The Ghost of Christmas Present will show him how people live and celebrate now. The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come will show him a possible future. Scrooge feels afraid, but he also starts to wonder: Can he become a kinder person?
